What this means for your business
Google’s official guidance separates one person’s account from accounts the business controls. The move is about who can recover the inbox and manage staff, not a promise that one address always lands better.
What to watch
- Business files and logins tied to a private personal account.
- A former employee controlling email or recovery.
- Shared passwords instead of separate managed users.
- A domain move that accidentally changes email domain settings.
Do this next
- List the people and shared addresses the business needs.
- Confirm the business controls the domain.
- Plan users, aliases, groups, migration, recovery, and offboarding.
- Change domain settings in a documented window and test send, receive, calendar, and recovery.
What a Workspace account changes
- Email at your own domain, such as hello@yourbusiness.com, instead of a gmail.com address.
- An administrator can reset passwords, recover accounts, and suspend the account of someone who leaves.
- Shared drives keep team files owned by the business rather than by one person.
- The administrator can require 2-Step Verification for everyone.
When personal Gmail is still fine
A sole owner with no staff, no shared inbox, and no plans to hire can run on a personal account for a while. Turn on 2-Step Verification and keep the recovery phone and email current.
Moving from Gmail to Workspace
- Google’s migration tools in the Admin console can copy existing mail into the new account.
- Keep the old Gmail account open until clients and services have the new address.
- Update the address on your website, Google Business Profile, invoices, and email signature.
When Little Fight fits
We can set up the domain, accounts, migration, website, forms, and handoff as one plan. The business remains the administrator.
