Keep passwords out of email and text. Agree on a safe way to grant access. Set a time for the change, test the work afterward, remove the old provider’s access, and keep a record of who now handles each account. Little Fight NYC can help plan the change.

Check this first

  1. List every service the current provider manages: email, domain, Wi-Fi, backups, and devices.
  2. Confirm that the business holds admin access to each account. Sign in yourself, and check that sign-in codes and the recovery email and phone go to someone at the business, not the old provider.
  3. Ask for documentation: network details, licenses, renewal dates, and setup notes.
  4. Agree on a handoff date that avoids your busiest hours.
  5. Test the key work after the change. Once your own admin logins work, remove the old provider’s access: turn off their admin logins, remove their roles on the Partner relationships page in the Microsoft 365 admin center, uninstall their remote-support apps, and change any passwords they knew. Record who now handles each account.

Specific fixes

Admin accounts to confirm

  1. Microsoft 365 Global Administrator or Google Workspace super admin.
  2. The domain registrar and the DNS host.
  3. The router, firewall and Wi-Fi controller.
  4. The internet provider account and any backup service.

When to bring in help

  • The current provider holds the only admin logins.
  • There are no notes on how the network or email is set up.
  • Contracts or renewals are tied to the old provider.

What Little Fight checks

We help build the service list, confirm what the business controls, and plan the change so work keeps running. We keep passwords out of email and text and agree on a safe way to grant access. After the handoff, we test with you and record who owns what.

Related questions

Do we need the old provider’s cooperation?

It helps. Ask in writing for admin access and documentation. If they will not help, contact each vendor directly with proof that the business owns the account, such as bills or company records. Start with the domain registrar: Google and Microsoft may ask you to change your domain settings to prove ownership before they restore admin access. If the domain or accounts are in the provider’s name, this is harder, so start before the old contract ends. Little Fight NYC can help with an IT provider handover for New York small businesses.

Will changing providers interrupt our work?

A planned handoff lowers the risk. Problems are more likely when no one knows what the old provider managed, so start with the list. Little Fight NYC can build it with you.
